Upcycling – Creative Reuse is a hands-on, full-time study program that teaches students to transform old items and textiles into new, functional, and aesthetic creations. The program promotes creativity, sustainability, and practical problem-solving while extending the life of existing products.

Who is it for?
The program is suitable for anyone who enjoys working with their hands and wants to develop ideas into finished products. No prior experience is required, and projects are adapted to each student’s skill level.

Content & Learning Outcomes

  • Learn various craft techniques and DIY skills.
  • Develop a sense of color, form, and overall design.
  • Work on individual projects to realize personal ideas and visions.
  • Participate in study visits and gain inspiration from different approaches.
  • Experience collaborative learning by observing and sharing with peers.
  • Complete and exhibit finished works in a final presentation.

Timetable
Applications open: February 2, 2026 (rolling admissions).
Interview: All applicants will be invited to a personal interview after submitting their application.
Students are admitted in the order applications are received, so apply early to secure your place!

Academic Year
August 12, 2026 – May 22, 2027 (full-time studies, 25 hours per week)

Location:
Borgå folkakademi / Runebergsgatan 16-18 in Porvoo centre

Language of Instruction:
Swedish but suits Finnish speaking people who are open to learn Swedish.
(English if needed)

Tution fees:
400 €/month including teaching, lunch & afternoon coffee
Additional material costs may apply for personal projects. For client projects, the customer is responsible for material costs.

Accomodation:
If you need accommodation, you can board in the school’s dormitory connected to the school in Porvoo (Borgå folkakademi Runeberginkatu 16-18, Porvoo).

Cost 200 €/month in a shared double room or 260 €/month for a single room, including breakfast Monday-Friday and supper Monday-Thursday. Further information about accommodation and costs can be found here.
