Boarding in school

Boarders in Tegelhuset have Wi-Fi available. In the room is a bed, writing table and clothes cupboard.  There is a communal kitchen on both floors.

The school has two boarding locations, one directly attaches to the school in Tegelhuset (map) and one in the town district Vårberga (3 kms from the school).
The boarding house in the school area is primarily for students on the Dog Consultant course as dogs are not allowed in the accommodation in Vårberga. The boarding house in school has two floors so it will be occupied with students from other courses also.

In Vårberga, lodgings have 2-3 rooms and a kitchen. There are bus routes between Vårberga and the school but are paid individually. There is Wi-Fi in both boarding houses.

All boarding rooms are to be vacated during the Christmas holidays because the school has other programmes then.  We can help you pack your belongings and can let you use a locked storage space to store them.

NB! Equal fees are due every month.  This means that the sum is the same every month irrelevant to how many school days there are.  Fees are due from September to May for Animal Welfare and Dog Consultant courses.

NB 2! In order to guarantee everyone’s safety we demand that all boarders can communicate effectively in Swedish (or Norwegian or Danish), Finnish or English.

NB 3! In one of the school’s boarding houses there will also be dogs due to the study programme Dog Consultant. We kindly ask you to inform us about allergies so we can organise a room in a different boarding house.

Welcome to Borgå folkakademi!

Finland

You are eligible to receive a student allowance from the month following your 17th birthday. The student’s own income impacts the financial support level and students should ensure that their income doesn’t exceed the allowed income.  For those students under 20, parents’ incomes will be taken into consideration i.e. an increased or decreased amount of financial support.

Check the conditions carefully for both student allowances and housing allowances, as well as what factors will affect your support before you apply – so you avoid problems and delays in payment. If you study in a fee-paying programme in a folkhögskola (People’s Academy) and reside as a boarder there, you have the right to claim housing allowance (88.87€ per month). Your local Folkpensionsanstalten (National Pension Fund or FPA / KELA) will be able to answer your questions. On the FPA’s website are forms where you can apply for student allowances, housing allowances and studying loans:  www.kela.fi/web/en/students. You can also get forms from the school office once term has started.
