Swedish & Skills is a study program aimed at women with an immigrant background.
Are you an unemployed job seeker, outside the labour market, or has your integration
period already ended? You now have the opportunity to spend a year at Akan in the
Swedish & Skills study program.
During an active study year at Borgå folkakademi, you will have the opportunity to develop your language skills while also strengthening important abilities for everyday life and working life. The study programme is free of charge for participants.
Content and objectives
During the year, you will study Swedish with a focus on being able to use the language in everyday life. You will also gain basic skills in Finnish.
In addition to the language studies, the programme includes two study modules that entitle you to competence badges:
- Learning skills
- Communication and occupational well-being skills
The studies aim to strengthen your ability to take the next step – whether it involves work, further studies, or a more active everyday life.
Structure
The education is carried out as on-site studies from Monday to Thursday,
9:00–14:00.
Fridays are dedicated to independent study.
Lunch is served on on-site study days.
Who is it for?
The programme is aimed at women with an immigrant background who want to:
- develop their Swedish language skills
- gain basic knowledge of Finnish
- strengthen their skills for everyday life and working life
- take the next step towards work or studies

Place:
Borgå folkakademi, Runebergsgatan 16-18 in the centre of Borgå.
Language of instruction:
The majority of classes are taught in Swedish.
Study fee:
The studies at Swedish & Skills are free of charge.
The education includes lunch (Monday-Thursday)
Accommodation:
If you need accommodation you can board in the school’s dormitory connected to the school.
Cost 200 €/month in a shared double room or 260 €/month for a single room, including breakfast Monday-Friday and supper Monday-Thursday.
