Borgå folkakademi is a joint stock holding company formed in 2005 through a merger of Borgå folkhögskola and Svenska folkakademin. The school is owned by Stiftelsen Svenska folkakademin (48%), Borgå Stad (38%), Sibbo Kommun (12%) and the association Minnesvårdarna (2%).
Borgå folkakademi was the first folkhögskolan in Finland. The school was founded 10.10.1889 on the initiative of J.E. Strömborg. Strömborg is perhaps most known for his work “Biografi över J.L. Runeberg” (Biography of JL Runeberg)
